For the past three years, I have been posting on the Religion Forum of my hometown newspaper, the TimesDaily of Florence, Alabama. I began this when I found the Religion Forum dominated by a handful of atheists and secularists. It seemed the right thing to do; so I began posting, refuting their anti-God, anti-Christian posts. Besides this apologetics effort of shining the Light of the Gospel upon the darkness of atheism and secularism -- I also post new discussions sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ for the sake of new believers and new seekers.
The dialogue below is from a discussion titled "Did Jesus Really Heal People?" and the lady below, Lynn, tends to downplay the divine aspect of healing and attributes healing today to advances in technology. While I will admit that advances in medical knowledge and technology have brought healing to many -- I would not discount the fact that the Holy Spirit stands looking over the shoulder of every bio-medical engineer, doctor, and surgeon. If I, or a loved one, has to be on the operating table -- I will pray, "Thank you, Lord, for the knowledge You have given these surgeons -- and for guiding their hands."
On the Forum, my Friend, Lynn, tell us, "Back to topic: Did jesus really heal people? I think He did and it was documented historically. HOW He did it, however, was documented by people that had no understanding or knowledge of how He did it, so it seemed to be some mysterious action that was called a 'miracle.'"
True, how He heals is beyond our realm of knowledge. However, since we know that He is the Creator; that He created every single molecule in the universe -- how is it difficult for Him to heal that created being in an instant? We know that He could have created the universe in an instant; but, chose to do it in six days. So, what is so difficult with Him healing His creation in an instant; or in Him choosing to do it over a longer period -- or choosing to do it through people, such as medical doctors?
When He removed the cancerous looking black growth from my right temple; He could have done it in an instant -- but, instead chose to do it over a period of four days. Who am I to complain; He removed it without medical attention or help. You might call this a miraculous healing; I prefer to call it a divine healing.
Then, you tell us, "I do believe that Jesus was the son of God and therefore had total knowledge of the physical laws of this world. He knew what caused illnesses and afflictions and he also possessed the knowledge to cure them. Knowledge that we are only beginning to tap into today. He had complete control and authority of the physical and spiritual realms because he had complete knowledge of how they work and the laws governing them."
Actually, He is the Son of God and is the Creator. Jesus Christ is preexisting and is very much alive today, in heaven interceding for all believers. So, you and I have the preexisting Son of God sitting beside the Father as our intercessor -- and every time, each day, that you and I goof, every time we forget to do it God's way and try to do it our own way -- He is there to pull His cover of righteousness around us so that the Father does not see our indiscretion. We believers are truly blessed.
And, yes, He does indeed have a complete knowledge of physical laws and scientific laws -- since He created those laws when He created our physical being and our physical environment. And, yes, He does have complete control over all these laws in both the physical and spiritual realm. Therefore, an instant cure for him would be second nature. Or, using medical science to heal us is within His realm. After all, He chooses to use we mere humans as His "feet on the street" in sharing His Gospel; why not in healing His creations?
And, you quote: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." - Arthur C. Clarke.
True, in a sense. However, this is where I will side with our science-minded Friends. Most often advances in technology follow a proven path of trial and error research.
Next, you tell us, "Technology is nothing more than knowledge. Jesus had 'technology' beyond anything that we have today. That's why even now, we don't understand how he did what he did."
Here I tend to agree with you -- that technology, or advances in technology, is merely gaining newer knowledge of things physical. I spent years as a Field Engineer in the computer industry. When I was faced with a computer that had a problem, my first step was to run through my memory bank of how it was supposed to work, then compare that with what it was currently doing. Based upon that information -- I would step into the realm of "educated guesswork."
In the older days of computer technology; when a computer failed, there were two approaches: the Shotgun approach where one would just start wholesale replacing of components until he stumbled upon one that fixed the problem; or the Rifle Shot approach, where one would analyze the problem, compare this knowledge to past experience, and using this knowledge, select the most likely component to replace. This often took longer; but, was more satisfying in the end.
And, I have often said that doctors do exactly the same kind of healing. Using their knowledge of the human body and after running a few tests -- they use the old "educated guesswork" approach, "Let's try this and see if it helps." Or, take two aspirins and call me in the morning.
But, Jesus Christ is another story. He does not use any form of "educated guesswork" -- for He has intimate knowledge of every molecule in our body. And, He has the ability to directly address each and every molecule in our body -- for He created them.
Is it necessary that we understand "how" He did it? No. What is necessary is that we have "faith" in the fact that He did do it.
Finally, you tell us, "I'm not saying he was an 'alien' with advanced technology that visited our planet...but that's a close comparison (and also why many people fall for that belief). He was, however, a 'visitor" to our physical world from a place that we cannot even comprehend. He was God in the flesh...he was from a different realm."
Here, you and I agree -- but, I might state it a wee bit differently. Was Jesus Christ an "alien" visiting our planet. No, we can never express it that way. An alien is one who comes from another land or place foreign to ours, i.e., an immigrant alien or an illegal alien. Jesus, in no way, could be called an alien to our world -- for He created it, it belongs to Him, it is His world -- more than it is ours.
True, when Adam disobeyed God and fell into sin; Adam gave the Title Deed to earth to Satan. However, that was only a Quick Claim Deed; Jesus Christ is still the owner -- and He will return after the Rapture and Tribulation to establish His Millennial Kingdom, the Kingdom of God on earth, for one thousand years; where He will rule the earth (the perfect theocracy) from the throne of David in Jerusalem.
Are God the Father and Jesus Christ in a different realm? Yes, they are in heaven. However, both secular and Christian scientists believe there are many more dimensions than the four that we know: height, width, depth, and time. They speculate that there are at least twelve dimensions; possibly more. Based upon that, heaven, and hell, would most likely be in another dimension or set of dimensions, possibly sharing our same physical space -- but, not experientially shared by we mortal humans.
Think about it. When Jesus Christ appeared to the disciples in the Upper Room, He did not come in through the door. He appeared, as from another dimension. When Jesus Christ appeared to Paul on the road to Damascus; He appeared as from another dimension. And, when Moses and Elijah appeared with Jesus at the Transfiguration; they appeared as from another dimension.
In their immortal bodies, they can pass from one set of dimensions to another. And, when we are raptured and have our immortal bodies -- wow, imagine the possibilities.
So, do I believe that Jesus is still in the healing business today? Absolutely! However, I would not put any faith in those television miracle workers or their televised Healing Meetings. I do sincerely believe they will have to stand before Jesus Christ one day and explain why they used His good name in such a fraudulent manner.
I have personally seen too much divine healing to discount any miracle Jesus Christ might choose to give us.
God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,
Bill Gray

From Scripture ~ What We Believe
My good Friend, Pastor Freddy Cortez, told me years ago; when we find a ministry new web site or a new ministry blog which claims to be Christian -- we should first look at what they believe and what they teach. Some call this their Biblical Doctrinal Beliefs, some call this their Statement of Beliefs, some have other names. Whatever one calls it; this is what that ministry believes the Bible teaches and what that ministry will teach in their published writings, Bible studies, Sunday School classes, and worship service messages. This is what will tell you if this organization is Christian or is a cult.
For over twenty years, I have been publishing my Christian writings in various venues: for a while, in newsletters and bulletin inserts; through my personal e-mail ministry; on the internet in web sites and forums; and in Bible studies and Sunday School -- using the gift of writing the Lord has given me. Some have asked about my position on Christian doctrines. This encouraged me really take a close look at my beliefs, in writing and against Scripture. This is what I have done and this is what is defined in this article: my personal Christian beliefs and the Scripture verses which I believe set them in concrete.
You and I may differ on some issues in our Christian walk. We may not all agree upon when the Rapture will occur -- or if it will occur. I believe the Rapture will occur and that it will happen shortly before the Tribulation begins. Therefore I am a Pretribulation believer.
I believe that Jesus Christ will return to earth, His Second Coming when He returns in glory and as the Lion of Judah -- at the end of the seven year Tribulation. At this time, He will establish His Millennial Kingdom on earth; therefore I am Premillennium in my beliefs.
Some take issue over "salvation without baptism" -- but, since Jesus saved the thief on the cross without baptism (Luke 23:43), I believe He can and will save others who have not, for whatever reason, been baptized.
Jesus left us two ordinances: that we should be baptized and that we should celebrate the Lord's Supper in remembrance of Him until He returns. He did not say that these were conditions of our salvation; for that would be works (Ephesians 2:8-9). These are ways of confessing Him before men (Matthew 10:32, Luke 12:8, Romans 10:9). These are our ways of declaring to the world that we are children of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ (Romans 8:16-17).
We may differ on when the Holy Spirit indwells, seals, and empower us. We may even differ on whether hell is real and who will face judgment before Jesus Christ and when.
We may differ on baptism via immersion versus sprinkling; we may differ on whether we are still looking forward to a 1000 year Millennial Kingdom on earth; we may differ on whether the New Earth will be a newly created earth or a refurbished one, and when.
We may differ on many things and, yet, still walk as Christian brothers and sisters, in joint fellowship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
These are all important issues, for they lead us into deeper study and understanding of God's Word, the Bible. We should endeavor with all our hearts to understand them more fully through prayer, Bible study, and meditating on the Word of God daily. But, these issues should not divide us, they should not cause us to shun one another. After all, the Bible tells us that today we see as in a mirror dimly, but one day we will be face to face with our Lord; then we shall know fully (1 Corinthians 13:12). So, if we do not agree on these things today; tomorrow, on the way up (when raptured) we can happily, in true Christian fellowship, know the answers.
But, if you do not believe in the One, True, Living God, manifested and declared in the Trinity; if you do not believe in the Deity of Jesus Christ; His death on the cross for our sin; His resurrection to assure our resurrection; if you do not believe that the Bible is the inspired, therefore inerrant, Written Word of God; my Friend, I am concerned about you and your eternal life.
And, if you do not believe that you are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, plus NOTHING ELSE (Ephesians 2:8-9) -- we need to talk.
Below is my Statement of Faith, my Christian Biblical beliefs, which define my walk with our Lord Jesus Christ. I pray this is your walk also.
God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

MY FRIEND, LIBBY FORD, PROMOTED TO HEAVEN
On Christmas morning, I received an e-mail from Margaret, Libby Ford's sister, telling me that early Christmas morning Libby had been promoted to heaven. I immediately began to write my feelings and my condolences to Margaret and all of Libby's family. I wanted to put my thoughts in writing while the impact of losing a dear friend was fresh in my mind. Just as I finished and was going to close and send the e-mail; my computer crashed and everything was lost. When my computer crashes I have to wait about an hour before it will work again. Since Dory and my daughter, Lana, were waiting for me to go with them to the home of friends for Christmas; I had to wait until today to respond.
For Margaret, Betty, Chip, and all of Libby's family and friends; losing her on Christmas will always be a sad reminder; yet, we have not really lost Libby; she has just gone ahead of us. Libby put her faith in Jesus Christ -- and, yesterday, she spent her first Christmas in the actual presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Can you imagine, being an honored guest who is personally welcomed and greeted by the Lord Himself to His birthday celebration in heaven? And, joining our Lord in welcoming Libby was the love of her life, Bobby. Libby truly enjoyed a marvelous Christmas yesterday. And, for all of us who are also believers; Libby and Bobby will be there with Jesus Christ to welcome each of us to our eternal home in heaven one day.
Whenever we lose a loved one; there will, and should, always be a time of mourning. For all of Libby's family and friends, although we know she has been promoted to heaven -- there will always be an empty spot in our hearts, until we join her and Bobby in joyous heavenly worship of and with our Lord.
Libby excelled in life; in 1950 meeting and falling in love with her tall, handsome U. S. Naval Academy midshipman and upon his graduation in 1953, becoming his bride. Their love produced two beautiful children, Betty and Chip, while Bobby was beginning his flying career in the U. S. Air Force. After his death, Libby's strength carried her through fifty-two years of waiting to be reunited with Bobby. And, in those ensuing years, the mountain peaks of her life were her grandchildren -- reaching the ultimate this year when granddaughter, Laurie, earned her Ph.D. in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and this past July moved to Shreveport to begin her career as a forensic scientist.
Please join me in lifting Libby's family in prayer this week as they celebrate her home-going, as they celebrate her life, and as they lay her to rest in Arlington National Cemetery alongside her beloved Bobby.
Thank you for your prayers.
God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,
Bill Gray

Hi Bill - Libby died about 3 hours ago. The doctor told her children there was no hope. Then, opened her eye and shined a light and showed she was brain dead. Her children decided to take her of the ventilator and she died shortly thereafter. There will be a funeral on Monday or Tuesday at Joseph Bliley Funeral Home and burial later at Arlington National Cemetery.

MY DEAR FRIEND, LIBBY FORD
On September 11, 2003, God brought me together with the widow of an Air Force pilot, 1/Lt. Bob Ford, who was killed while he and I were stationed at Osan Air Base in Korea. Bob was killed in the crash of an F-86F jet fighter aircraft on March 11, 1957. Through a URL link in an e-mail someone sent me on September 11, 2003, I discovered and visited the Korean War Project web site. I found the Chat Room for my unit, the 311th Fighter-Bomber Squadron, where I found a short message posted by Libby Ford, Bob's widow. She had posted the message on September 11, 1999, after the Korean War Memorial committee refused her request to have Bob's name put on their memorial in Washington DC. She was very upset over their refusal.
I called Libby and told her that I had been stationed with Bob in Korea when he was killed. She asked if I would write my memoirs of that year so that she and his family would have some form of closure. I began to write the memoirs -- but, God put on my heart to do a memorial web site. And, through these last few years Libby and I have become good friends. Sometimes on the telephone, but more often in e-mails; she shared with me the joy of her children and grandchildren -- and the great sense of accomplishment she felt this year when her granddaughter, Laurie, earned her Ph.D. in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and this past July moved to Shreveport to begin her career as a forensic scientist.
My purpose in telling you all of this is that I want us all to pray that God will restore Libby's health and give her more time with her family; more time to enjoy watching her grandchildren's accomplishments in life -- all a tribute to Bob and Libby Ford. We very selfishly want Libby to be with us longer.
However, if it is God's will that she go to be with her Lord -- we know that she will also be with Bobby once again.
We am reminded of the apostle Paul's confession in Philippians 1:23-24, when he says to the people in the church of Philippi, "But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better; yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake."
I am sure that is Libby's feelings also: To go home to be with her Lord and with Bobby -- yet, a desire to remain here with her precious family. God knows which is best -- so, we must leave Libby in His loving hands.
But, I still ask everyone to pray that it be His will that Libby will stay with us for a long time. Please keep Libby and all her family in your prayers during this time.
If you have time, visit the Bob Ford Memorial web site. There you will find photos of Bobby and Libby when they met at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis in 1950, their courtship, and their wedding in 1953. You will find a page which which shows Bobby at Annapolis; then as he transferred to the Air Force and got his wings; of his time in Korea and his death; and his burial at Arlington National Cemetery. To me, Bob Ford was a hero -- and Libby Ford his princess. I believe you will enjoy their web site.

Hi Bill - I'm Margaret Withrow, Libby's sister. Just wanted to let you know that Libby is in Virginia Beach General Hospital in Virginia. Beach, VA, and not expected to make it. Colon problems and infection in colon and liver, heart attack, and full of fluid. She is in emergency surgery now and I'm waiting to hear. I am keeping everyone posted by writing on her profile on Facebook.
I just wanted to thank you again for EVERYTHING you did for her. I don't think you will ever know how much it meant to her. You gave her closure with Bobby's death and I truly appreciate it too. You are a saint. We could certainly use your prayers now.
Many thanks and God bless you.

What Does Christmas Mean To You?
What does Christmas mean to you? Is it a specific day of the year? Is it a time to spend lots of money on gifts; hoping to receive many nice gifts yourself? Is it a time for parties and gathering with friends and family? Is it nothing special to you; just another day, another paid holiday from work? Or does Christmas have a very special meaning for you?
Yes, the day we celebrate as Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ, coincides with a pagan holiday. Yes, the early church Christians began this celebration as an alternative to the pagan holiday, Saturnalia - to give Christian believers their own special celebration and to keep them from participating in the pagan celebration. And, yes, the name Christmas was originally called Christ Mass and was celebrated in the church in Rome.
But, Christmas is much more than any of this. Christmas, regardless of which day one chooses to celebrate the holiday, regardless of the name given to the holiday - is a day we should be celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior. We should be remembering that Jesus Christ lay aside His divinity and was born into a human body, not to glorify Himself, not to benefit Himself - but so that He might offer atonement, the free gift of salvation, to all who will, by the grace of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, believe and receive Him.
To Christian believers, Christmas means worship, worship of our Lord and Savior, on Christmas day and every day of the year.
What does the Bible tell us about this wonderful event?
Isaiah 7:12-14 (nkjv), "But Ahaz said, 'I will not ask, nor will I test the LORD!' Then he said, 'Hear now, O house of David! Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will you weary my God also? Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.'"
Immanuel is from the Hebrew word `Immanuw'el and from Strong's Concordance means: "God with us" or "with us is God."
This passage is a good example of Old Testament prophecy, which typically had a near term fulfillment for those hearing the prophet in his time, showing that he truly spoke the revelations given him by God - and a second long term fulfillment showing God's working throughout the ages.
Later, in Isaiah 9:6 (kjv), we read, "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."
He is all these things to all who believe. But, He is eternal judgment to all who deny Him.
In the New Testament Gospels, we read of the angel Gabriel announcing His birth to Mary and Joseph:
Luke 1:30-33 (nasb), "The angel said to her, 'Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.'"
Matthew 1:20-23 (nkjv), "But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, 'Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.' So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: 'Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,' which is translated, 'God with us.'"
And, we read of the angels announcing to the shepherds in the field that our Lord has been born:
Luke 2:7 (nkjv), "And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn."
Luke 2:8-11 (nkjv), "Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, 'Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.'"
Luke 2:12-14 (nkjv), "'And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.' And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: 'Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!'"
Luke 2:15-16 (nkjv), "So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, 'Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.' And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger."
Luke 2:17-20 (nkjv), "Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them."
Matthew 2:1-2 (nasb), "Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, 'Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.'"
Often, we Christian believers are ridiculed because we walk by faith - by faith knowing that He is God, that He is our Lord and Savior. But, have you ever considered the faith of the shepherds in the field or the Magi who traveled from the far distant East? The shepherds had a serious responsibility - to protect the sheep from wolves and other predators. Yet, when the angel told them to leave their sheep unprotected and go into Bethlehem to find the promised infant; they did not hesitate - they left their sheep and went. But, were their sheep really unprotected? Not really; for if God sent them on a mission, would He not protect their sheep while they are gone?
The Magi, or Wise Men, priestly men from a far eastern country - did not hesitate. They saw the star, knew it was from God, and traveled a great distance to see this special child and to bring Him gifts. Yes, the shepherds and the Magi both displayed great faith. They stepped out if faith. Should we do less?
So, why do we celebrate Christmas? Because our Lord Jesus Christ loves us so much that He came to earth in a human body - to die for you, for me, for all people. And this is the main theme of the Bible - that God has provided, through His Son, the one and only Way to eternal forgiveness, to eternal salvation, to eternal security in Christ Jesus. We love Him because He loved us enough to die for us. He is the most special Person in our lives. And, if we celebrate the birth of our other friends and loved ones; why would we not celebrate the birth of our most special Loved One?
You might say, "But, you do not know the day on which He was born. So, how can you celebrate His birthday?"
If you had adopted a child and did not know that child's true date of birth - would you tell him/her that you will not celebrate their birthday because of this lack of information? Of course not. You love the child and you want it to feel that love; so, you decide upon an arbitrary day and give him/her a birthday to celebrate.
So, why can't we do the same for the One we love most - Jesus Christ? It is not the day which is important; it is our relationship with Him which makes this day or any day that we choose to set aside for Him special. We worship Him 24/7/365. We have just chosen to give Him extra special worship on this one day; to thank Him for all the love He has shown for us.
If you are a Christian believer; have a glorious, wonderful, blessed Christmas.
If you are a non-believer, thank a Christian for making it possible for you to have a day off work with pay.
God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,
Bill Gray
